Katy Perry, the famous singer-songwriter, is known for being a massive icon in the pop genre.

She has even been on movies, like The Smurfs, and appeared on games, like her special The Sims 3 expansions.

She is the queen of pop, over-sized cupcakes, Teenage Dreams and, of course, Twitter.

On the 1st of July last year – 2016 -, Katy Perry officially became the most followed person on Twitter. She pushed past Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift, and even now, in 2017, she still holds the title for most followed on Twitter. The pop-star currently has over 95.5 MILLION followers.

The reason for her popularity? There are a few possible reasons. Perhaps it’s because of her talent and songs. Maybe it’s because people didn’t want Justin Bieber to be the King of Twitter anymore. One of the main reasons is possibly because of how relatable and down to earth her Tweets are. For example, here is one of her Tweets:

This 32 year old popstar joined Twitter in February, 2009. Since then, she has retweeted statements from Obama – who is currently 4^th in the most-followed Twitter leaderboard -, praised fellow singers, revealed she is a proud ‘Belieber’, showed her support and pride for charities, and kept her fans up-to-date with what she was doing – from concerts to her just sleeping in.
